as much as regrets
A short re-cap of who am I.
I am a junior experience designer, hungry for challenges and adventure. I’ve been working under big company (a professional accounting firm) marketing and communication department as an intern and currently a permanent staff.
What I learned in school
It took me ~5 years to become who am I today as an experience designer. I faced a huge challenge when I first encountered with this industry. I was not confidently, in speaking up or giving in ideas while having discussions. I was worried that I would embarrass myself. But communication is the key to a lot of things, and school taught me that well. I am not confident in giving constructive feedback and structural input.
What I in learned in big company
It took me ~1.5 years to become who am I today as another experience designer. I faced a huge challenge when I first encountered with this industry as well. I was passionate to share my ideas, my input and I was eager to learn what I could bring to the company. Without a doubt, this company has the most extended network regarding the number of people, and I am very proud to be part of that network. I was able to learn and communicate with people who are located globally around the world. However, culture difference got in the way.
I used SWOT analysis to analyse my situation
SWOT analysis was a way of evaluating cases.
Strength Weakness Opportunities Threat
I used this format to evaluate the situation that I was in, and I feel like it is an excellent way to make a more efficient evaluation from a more objective POV.
Keep working in this company
Strength: Can build that network from a global perspective.
Weakness: Local culture difference, there is the block for that connection, and with the current experience, the relationship is not meant for.
Opportunity: In-house within this industry have a lot of their limitations in exploration and testing.
Threats: Time wasted when it is the time for exploration
Working in a new environment (Lane Crawford)
Strength: A new department with a better infrastructure, so a better career builds and learning curve.
Weakness: Uncertainty (maybe not everyone sees it as a weakness)
Opportunity: More hands-on experience in deploying user experiences and seeing an instant feedback.
Threats: Job expectations, is different what was wanted.
There is no right or wrong when choosing your path. But we need to be realistic and true to our own time. What is our life vision, and is the thing that we are working on right now is achieving that goal?
I don't know, but I am certain, that I will never go anywhere staying in my comfort zone. I'd rather try failing then regret not. Failure does not eat you, regrets do.
Take this lesson and apply to prototyping, we are not going anywhere if we are not exploring opportunities and methods.
Time to do the housekeeping!
We are precisely 31 days away from the end of the year.
I love to take this time to reflect to reflect on some thoughts about my agenda.
Check in with your freelance client
Send a Christmas greetings and check in how they are doing with their business. Ask them how they are feeling using your product, retain feedback for further references.
Backup your computer
My mac book is ageing too, so I should back it up before it is too late. Never hurt to store your projects or start your projects in a file and then link every path back to the main file. :)
Clean up our projects
Updating our portfolios once in a while is a big to-do list. To be very honest, the last time I did my backup was a year ago.
Time to look back to the content and review if they are reflecting your line of service and profession.
Setting up new goals
Have a tiny notebook or just write on your phone on what you would like to achieve for the upcoming year. Does not have to be a technical skill about design. Look around sign up courses for pottery learning, or even start painting something at home learn a new dish. A lot of things that we could do to learn to give it back to our family.
Learn to step away from work once in awhile
We should let our brain rest and step away from work once in a while. I am super passionate about my field, so my workplace, home, Instagram (dedicated), blog, Pinterest board and the list goes on, fills up with User research methods and experiences… It is taking up my life completely, so it never hurts to step away from a little and reconnect with friends.
Now lets kickback, have cocoa, relax and start cleaning up for our new year!

To achieve our goal and or to do our research, we need to be empathetic. Why not start with the team. People might be intimidated by your title because you are a "designer" or may not understand what your exact job nature is.Read More
We are curious individuals. We like to look for challenges and problems to solve. So those are from the same field, we should be running on the same method. There might be some introverts and extroverts out there, but we all appreciate ideas and engagements. I highly recommend that we all step out and connect with our global community of designers.Read More
